Pioneering efforts of Robert Monroe in the field of Consciousness development was informed to me very recently, this year 2017.
My research about him show that he used Binaural beats (sort of) system, during his initial years of practice, to tap the non-physical realm and meet his guide. Later he was traveling to the non-physical without support from instruments.
One of his profound contribution has been to explore the non-physical and identify non-physical platforms (so to speak) that non-physical identity of the physically Human, pass through after ejecting from the body for good.
Another contribution has been to make the information available to those who prefer to be aware only about the physical body.
He has in a way, popularized techno support to experience the Out of body awareness also termed as Astral projection.
The programs like 'Life line' that the Institute he founded, seems to provide lubricated movement between physical and non-physical awareness.
